First

We live in a world where love is confused with feelings. Society wants us to believe that love is all about “me” and that if I don’t get from the other person what I am looking for, then I need to walk away and cut them off.  The first thing we need to understand is that love is not a feeling, it’s an act of our will. We don’t love someone because of what we can get out of it! We love someone because of what we want to give them.

True love is never selfish; it’s always selfless! That is why the only One who can truly be described as “love”, Is God! And that’s why the only way we can truly love others, is when we have God in our life. If love were selfish, then there would be no way that God would love us, because there is nothing that God can get out of a relationship with us. If love were based on feelings, then there would be no way that God would love us, because we continue to break His heart!

But Scripture tells us that God loved us, even before we knew Him. Jesus was humiliated, suffered and died because He loves us. He didn’t enjoy the pain, but He did it anyway. That’s how we know what true love is. And what blows me away is that society blames God for not loving us. We become angry because bad things are happening, and the first thought that seeps out of our limited minds is, “If God is such a loving God, why does He allow bad things to happen?”

Well, love doesn’t guarantee that nothing sad will happen. But love does guarantee that when it does, Love will always be there for us. And when we accept God, who is Love, into our lives, we never again need to feel alone and afraid. And God is asking us to reflect that same love in a broken world. The church needs to be a place filled with love and compassion. That love should never be based on what that person can do for us, but what we can do for them.

Have an amazing day as you share that love… only using words when necessary.
