I am blessed and I thank God for every day He gives me on Earth. I am covered by His grace and I thank Him that I can look forward to an eternity in heaven.
Being blessed has nothing to do with how much money I have in the bank. Because if it did, I wouldn’t be blessed at all. Being blessed has nothing to do with how well I can retire one day. Because, at the moment, I can afford to retire next week, but will then need to start working the following Monday. Knowing that you are blessed finds its source in our Heavenly Father.
For many years of my life, I had far more than I do now, but I could never find true peace. It eluded me because I kept focusing on what I didn’t have, and spent all my time and energy , trying to get it. But a simple attitude adjustment is all that I needed. I stopped thinking that blessings came through my pockets. And I started realising that, in essence, I deserve nothing. God doesn’t owe me anything. That’s when things started changing.
Today, I am especially thankful. 22 years ago, I said “I do” to the greatest blessing that God could ever have given me. Every moment of every day I stand in awe of God’s goodness to me. He has blessed me with the most amazing woman to spend my life with and I cherish every day we have together. Each morning, my coffee date with is the highlight of my day. Our life together is a blessing. Our awesome boys are a blessing. God is good.
Let’s stop focusing on the things that we don’t have, and start thanking God for all that we do. When we choose to do that, our heavy hearts will become thankful ones. Our sense of entitlement will be replaced with gratitude. And our selfishness will make way for generosity, because we know that everything we have, is a gift from our Heavenly Father.
