True and absolute freedom is only found in the presence of God.
What seems like freedom to the world, is actually a caged existence. We are imprisoning ourselves with stuff, without realizing that we are losing our souls. We are locking ourselves into cells of which the walls are the conformity of society. Our idea of freedom is the ability to do what we like as long as it doesn’t contradict what the world perceives to be inclusivity. Everything is inclusive as long as it doesn’t go against societal ideology.
Freedom doesn’t mean that we are free to do what we like. It doesn’t even mean that we are free to say what we like. True freedom can only be found when we can honestly proclaim, “It is well with my soul!” What the world is experiencing at the moment is not freedom, it is fear. As long as we do what worldly authorities tell us to do, they allow us some “freedoms” which aren’t even theirs to give… and we fall for it! That is not freedom!
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom. God is the only One who has the ability to break our chains. There is no freedom found in societies where God has been banished to the outskirts. God has been thrown out of every aspect of society and we think that is freedom. Maybe it’s time we begin to move, so that we can hear the rattling of the chains that have a hold on us. It’s time to break free from the restraints that we call freedom, and time to find true Freedom in Christ. Then, like Paul, our bodies might be chained and imprisoned, but our souls will be free. And that… is true freedom.
And how does a man benefit if he gains the whole world, and loses his soul in the process? For is anything worth more than his soul? (Mark 8:36)
