Father, keep me from believing the lies of the enemy. Help me to stand in Your truth!
Many of us can’t help but wonder what is happening in the world. And that’s a very valid thing to wonder about in these times. The world preaches “no discrimination” and “accept everyone”, yet the reality is that Christians are marginalized and treated like 2nd class citizens. But why are we surprised? In Philippians 3:18 – 21 we read:
... many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
The danger with living in the modern day world is that we are often influenced by the thinking of this world. And it’s telling us to be as comfortable as possible, and to be accepted by everyone. That is certainly not what God is focused on. He wants us to draw nearer to Him! He wants us to take our eyes off the things of this world, and to keep our eyes on the cross. When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that He had no interest in luxury and acceptance. What we do see is how He kept His gaze on His Father, and spent His time here on earth, sharing love with everyone. When He was tempted with comfort and riches and acceptance, He refused to be swayed. He never allowed the society of His day, to distract Him from His calling. Like Jesus, we should never sell our morals and principles for acceptance and comfort.
Like never before, do we need to focus on Christ and not the world. Like never before do we need to stand our ground and not allow our fleshly desires, to hijack our relationship with God. Like never before, do we need to spend more time in the presence of God. And like never before do we need to proclaim,
The cross before me, the world behind me, NO TURNING BACK!
