Contentment is a state of the heart unaffected by outward circumstances!
Contentment must never be considered a place of stagnation. By being content with where we are at, simply means that we choose to focus on our blessings instead of on how things could be better. It never means that we aren’t driven in life.
Attitude is so important in life. And seeing the glass half full is a decision we need to make. We can never blame our bad attitude on less than ideal circumstances. Whatever is happening around us is irrelevant when it comes to having a positive outlook on life. In fact, it is during these trying times that we need to work on choosing an attitude of gratitude and not simply defaulting into a state of feeling sorry for ourselves.
But being content in spite of our circumstances should never be a comfortable pillow that keeps us from getting up. We all have a purpose and a calling in life that is never finished until we close our eyes for the last time. That means that we should never become complacent. We can never love enough. We can never make enough of a difference. When we become content with what we are doing to impact the world, we begin to lose our passion for life. There is always more to be done to show God’s love. There is always more to be done to stand up against injustice. There is always more to be done to help those in need. There is always more to be done to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The smile on my face doesn’t mean that my life is perfect. It means that I appreciate God’s goodness, and I will reflect that appreciation through the way I live my life!
