While we are postponing, life speeds by.
You know what I’m talking about. We set the alarm for 6am… we push snooze… and that’s where it all starts. That mindset of doing it later is one that has infiltrated our lives so subtly, yet affects our lives so devastatingly. If I had to take you on a guided tour of my mind, your head will be spinning. There are so many things I want to do, that I don’t even know where to start. And I’m sure that applies to most of us. However, the simple answer is, “A journey of a thousand miles, begins by taking the first step, not postponing it!”
Now I’m not talking about little things. I’m not talking about postponing a visit to the dentist (which reminds me…) or postponing a break-away weekend. This is about postponing things in our lives that we know we have been called to do. It is about procrastinating when it comes to our purpose and our passions. Because passion and purpose are identical twins, but the longer we occupy ourselves with things that don’t fulfill our purpose, the more we lose our passion to achieve that goal. And when that happens, you and I have simply got into the habit of pushing the snooze button on our lives.
That church that God is calling you to plant… do it!
That support group you need to start to help others with the experiences you’ve overcome… do it.
That book that has been bubbling to come out of you… write it.
That passion you have for the poor and needy… feed it by feeding others.
That calling you have to help with education where it is needed most… make it happen.
The things is that nothing we pursue in life will come without its sacrifices. It will cost you something, but the reward of living a life filled with passion and purpose makes that sacrifice so worth while. Following your purpose will require determination and perseverance. Things aren’t always going to fall into place. And that’s where faith comes in. When you and I are spending time with God, it is so much easier to hear His voice. And when He reveals our specific purpose to us, and we pursue it, He will give us all we need, to make it a reality.
Yet, the most important thing that you and I can do, is to accept Jesus Christ as King of our lives. Never procrastinate on that decision. It will make the difference, not only between an eternal life with or without God, but will also make the difference between living a life of passion and purpose, or simply existing. It’s a no-brainer. Just do it!
