The key that unlocks the treasure chest of God’s peace, is faith in the promises of God.
There are so many promises in God’s word and He wants us to stand firm on each one of them. One thing that God never promised is a world without trouble, yet, that seems to be the one thing that we expect from Him. Our attitude is so often… “God, if you take this problem away, I will live for you.” God is not our personal genie who needs to jump when we snap our fingers. He is the creator who spoke the universe into existence. He is the One who is worthy of our praise even if everything around us seems to be falling apart. Yet God so often gives us lives that are filled with blessings. And when we face a few obstacles along the way, we tend to run out of stamina because we use our strength to ask God “Why?” instead of asking Him, “What do you want me to learn from this, God?”
The most amazing thing for me is that God gives me promises to get me through those times when I might feel sorry for myself or feel that the world is getting too much for me. Even when we are facing eminent danger, He is there. He promises us that He will never leave us and that He will give us the strength we need to get through each trial, if only we will trust Him and stand on His promises. As I am writing this, my 84 year old mom is having a hip operation. She woke up, as she usually does, at about 1am on Friday morning to make some coffee and spend time in The Word. But she fell and lay on the floor for 4 hours before anyone realised what had happened. She could have easily felt that God was unfair. If she was waking up to spend time with Him, why did this need to happen? But the peace that my mother finds in God is an example to anyone who knows her. No matter what happens around her, it doesn’t affect the peace of God that she has within her. She stands on God’s promises without fail and has been an example to me of how doing just that, gives us peace that surpasses all understanding.
In Isaiah 26:3, God tells us that He will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in Him. That is an amazing promise because it means that no matter what is happening around us – no matter how out-of-hand things are getting – how hateful people might be – how much persecution Christians might need to face, we will not be moved because we have our feet firmly planted on The Rock – Jesus Christ. It is as if we soar above the chaos even though we might be living within it. He gives us His peace that prevents our hearts from being troubled and our minds from being afraid.
If you are troubled by things that are happening around you to such an extent that you are beginning to feel hopeless, begin to put your trust in God, because His hope will keep you standing in a world that is rapidly falling.
Have an amazing day!
Your reminding me that I need to speak and write about the good and loving things Jesus has done in my life, not only write about the struggle. Because there are many. Most of all I’m so grateful He gave me a chance to save my soul, maybe help a few others start on the path.
