Maybe

I look up to the mountains. Does my strength come from the mountains? Do I find my hope in people or things?

Maybe… because we are looking for our hope in others, we are becoming a people of hopelessness. Why put our trust in humans. They are but mortal, so how can they help?

Maybe… because we are feeling alone, we will do anything to feel a part of something, hoping for that “something” to take away our loneliness. Why believe that human gatherings and “movements” will give us a sense of belonging? They are passing things, so how can they help?

Maybe… because we are living in a society that values stuff more than it does relationships, we have become a people that doesn’t have a clue what true neighbourly love looks like. Why do we place so much value on temporary objects that we might not even have tomorrow?

Maybe… that’s why we say we care about human lives, but act completely contrary to our words.

Maybe… that’s why we reflect confidence to the world, while we are actually falling apart in the quietness of our own company.

Maybe… that’s why we are flaunting our earthly possession, yet feeling empty and unfulfilled.

Maybe… in these unprecedented times, it’s time to realise that confidence in ourselves, in others and in objects isn’t working. It doesn’t give us what we are all yearning for. Maybe it’s time to stop trying to find our help by conquering mountains, and find our strength and hope in the One who created the mountains. In the One who has defeated death. In the One who holds the key to a life of purpose and joy, in spite of our circumstances.

Fear… what is fear when I know that God is with me and that with Him, we always make a majority.

Hopelessness… what is hopelessness when I know that God is in control and that this world is but a place that I am passing through.

Loneliness… what is loneliness when I know that my God will never leave me because He is the God who stays!

I look up to the mountains. Does my strength come from the mountains? Do I find my hope in people or things? No… my strength, my help and my purpose comes from God, who made the heavens and the mountains.

May you realise today that life is short and God is eternal. Have a blessed day!
