On Purpose

“The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The work of life is to develop it. The meaning of life is to give your gift away.”

And that is the simple truth. We are running around like a bunch of crazies, looking for life’s meaning under every rock and around every corner. How else can we explain the chaos in the world today? How else do we explain the multitude of campaigns in search of justice, which are all fueled by hatred? An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. And that is exactly where we find ourselves at the moment.

It blows me away how we can even think that we will ever find our purpose by advocating hate and acting in rage. Now don’t get me wrong? There is room for anger and opposition. Disagreeing with someone’s view and expressing that, is part of standing up for what is right. Acting on that anger is also okay. But the one question we need to ask ourselves is this: “Am I acting and speaking because I care, or because I simply want to prove a point, no matter who I annihilate in the process?

If my sons disrespect their teachers or decide to do the wrong thing, I will respond with a reprimand and make it clear that their behaviour has been unacceptable. But it will be done because I love them and I want them to learn from their mistakes. Hate is never a part of the process. An eye for an eye doesn’t even enter the frame. The purpose that you and I have for our lives can only be found in love and is always motivated by love. And here’s the thing… God is love.

We love to blame God when things go wrong and disregard Him when things go right. So many don’t believe in God, but love to blame Him (who they don’t believe in) for the bad things that are happening in the world. They can’t believe that God is love. Yet, Jesus came to show that love by dying for those who love Him, and those who don’t. He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us during these crazy times. He is the One who gives us hope and let’s us realise that this life is but a “fading flower”. If this life was all I believed in, I would also be filled with despair.

But I know that there is more. So what happens here, doesn’t determine my happiness and joy. I know that my purpose is eternal and it begins here on earth. I know that my purpose here on earth is to love and encourage. Every day I am learning how to do that and being challenged in the process.  Every day the meaning of my life becomes clearer as I give that love and encouragement to others. Contrary to what society tells us…

We need to do more for the world, than the world does for us.

Have an amazing day.
