Over the past 6 months 360 000 of the world’s population has died due to complications of COVID 19. Something that has affected 0.075% of the world’s population has changed the way we live, think and act.
It blows my mind that we have become so obsessed with a virus! It doesn’t make sense when we look at issues that we don’t seem to bat an eyelid about. More than 10% of the world’s population go to bed hungry at night! Over the past 6 months, 4 000 000 people have lost their battle with hunger. That’s 11 times more victims than COVID 19 has claimed. It just seems as if we have lost perspective.
When something might affect us directly, we seem to take it seriously. Hunger and poverty aren’t contagious, so we don’t think it’s got anything to do with us. We can’t catch the problems that refugees and sex slaves are facing every day, so we turn a blind eye to it. But God forbid something that has a 0.005% chance of affecting our well-being, makes an appearance. Then we jump up and take notice. We have become a selfish generation.
As Christians, our vision needs to be clear. We need to see things as they are, not as they seem. We should stop allowing our self-interest to interfere with real issues. The world is in need of compassion, love and Jesus. It has been before COVID 19 and will be long after COVID 19. Lets stop with this shallow living and start planting our roots in the rock who can not be moved. Let’s not allow things that only affect us, blind us from loving our neighbours, standing up for the helpless and reaaching out to the lost.
Have an awesome day as you keep things in perspective.
