We always have a choice how we decide to deal with the personal storms we may be facing. It’s so easy to feel sorry for ourselves and allow our circumstances to control our perspective. The truth is, we may not always be able to control our circumstances, but how we react to them is ALWAYS in our control.
The only person that determines the way you look at things and react to things is You. Having said that, it is difficult to stay positive when there seems to be no hope. It is certainly a challenge to find the good in the bad if we are standing on shaky ground. Reading Matthew 10 today, I realised why the Pharisees were always criticising Jesus. He could never do anything right in their eyes. It was simply because their identity was found in their religiosity, and Jesus highlighted what needed to change in them.
Instead of always trying to change what’s happening around us, we should be focusing on how God wants to change us through our circumstances. And the only way that is going to happen, is when we pay less attention to the reflection of our “appearance”, and more attention to the reflection of our hearts. Perhaps that’s why society is rejecting Jesus… because His Spirit highlights the things that need to change in our lives and we feel offended by it.
There is no better security in life, than to stand on His promises and know that, whatever happens, can not shake us because we are standing on an unshakeable rock. No matter what life throws at me, I CHOOSE to follow Him, trust Him and give Him control of my life. Instead of allowing the storms of life to scare me, I allow the God of the storms to carry me through.
Have a great day and may His peace fill your heart, whatever you are going through.
