Perseverance is stubbornness with a purpose. I don’t care what anyone says, but to genuinely persevere in modern day society, we need faith. Without faith, we will never see challenges as opportunities. Without faith, we will never believe that things will get better. And with so many people suffering from depression and hopelessness today, it is clear that faith is a dwindling commodity.
Faith simply means that we believe something without seeing the proof. Whenever we find ourselves in a challenging situation, all we can see and experience is “hindrance”, because that’s the reality of the situation. When we have faith, the situation doesn’t change, but the internal vision changes and we now see the possibilities that the hindrances allow for.
When that faith is rooted in a loving God, who sent His Son to die for us because of His unfailing love for every single person, it becomes even more real. The closer I walk with Him, the easier it becomes to see the steppingstones during hard times. The more time I spend with Him, the less my circumstances play a role in my contentment. I become thankful in spite of what is happening in my life. I become more resilient because I know God is for me and that the troubles I experience is not because God doesn’t love me, but because we live in a sinful world.
