If the existence of our world depended on the balance in the lives of its inhabitants, it would have ceased to exist a long time ago. On a scale from 1 to 10, how balanced do you feel your life is.
I suppose balance is a relative concept when it comes to how we live our lives. It is completely understandable that there are things that we sometimes have to do in life, that we don’t always feel like doing. For example, when you’ve had an argument with your spouse or a close friend, you need to address the issue if you want that relationship to last. When you are raising children, there are times when you need to enforce discipline, even when it is more difficult for you than for them. When you have bills to pay, you need to earn money even if you would rather prefer to be playing golf (or whatever you like to do).
Balance refers to doing those things, but equally, doing the things that you were created for. We all have a specific purpose in life, and only when we know what that purpose is, can we find the balance. So many of us spend most of our lives trying to find what makes us tick and what our purpose is. We end up wasting precious time doing this. Maybe it’s about money, so we spend 50 years of our lives building up a healthy bank balance, while the side of the scale that is supposed to balance out our lives, is empty. Maybe it’s about a career, so we work for 18 hours a day, 6/7 days a week, while leaving the other side of the scale empty. Maybe it’s about fame, so we spend all our lives building up a following of millions of people on Twitter. Maybe it’s about following our desires, so we do whatever we feel like doing, even to the detriment of others around us.
So, there are certain things that we need to hold on to, but there are also things that we need to let go of. The wisdom, knowing when to do what, will lead to a balanced life. The only way we can do that is when we know our purpose. It’s about balancing our passions, not our time! The only way we can do that is when we know our purpose. Because, you see, our true purpose in life, will be in line with our passions. The sooner we know what our purpose is, the sooner we can make that the focal point of our lives, and build everything around that. Then, instead of living compartmentalised lives where a fraction of our time is spent on our passions, and another fraction on our jobs, and another fraction on our families, we can weave them all together in a fulfilling tapestry. And when we achieve that, our lives are balanced!
My purpose is clear because I know my Creator. He is the One who has given me that purpose in the first place. When we get to that place, we can pay the bills doing things that are geared towards our passion. When we get to that place, we can include our families in our passion and encourage one another along the way.
When every aspect of our lives is moving in the same direction, with the same goal in mind, there is no way that we can veer off course. Our lives become like a well-oiled machine, with every part working together in harmony, to achieve a common goal – Living a life of Purpose!
Have an amazing day!
