Living in a “I want it now” society is not really helping anyone. The result is impatience and a very demanding lifestyle. I having fallen into that trap and have been stuck there for a long time, but, “No More!”
When God told David to be still, He meant it. David was in Jerusalem, surrounded by the enemy. He never knew what to do and how he was going to get out of that situation. Society would tell him to hurry and get out of there. God tells him, “Be Still and know that I am God.” That so contradicts the way we do things.
What has happened to the long chats over a cup of tea after dinner? We don’t have time for that anymore because of our busy lifestyles and the need not to miss that exciting TV program. What happened to lying on the bed over the weekend to read a book (maybe even the Bible)? We don’t have time for that because there’s a sale on at the shopping centre and we can’t miss that. What happened to waking up early in the morning to go for a walk and just spend a bit of time preparing myself for the day? We don’t have time for that because I need all the sleep I can get after staying up late last night checking out Facebook. It’s not that we don’t have time anymore, it’s that we don’t make time anymore.
A minute today is the same length it was 20 years ago. Every person is given the same amount of time every day. Why are some people then able to do these things that require time, while others can’t? Why does it seem as if some people have more time to spare than others? It’s simply because they choose to spend their time wisely. We don’t have time for the important things in life because we are wasting our time on things that don’t have real worth. You see, the more time I spend on trying to improve my financial status, the less time I have to impact the lives of others who are truly in need.
Our purpose in life boils down to 2 things:
- To love and serve God. When we do that we will find our true worth in Him and not in anything else.
- To love and serve others . The more we do that, the less selfish we become.
Have an amazing day!
